JOVICA JOVIC & BALKAN ORKESTAR
Words cannot express quite a lot of feelings, whereas a noise or tone or drone or sound, an accordion falling down a staircase of notes, can somehow capture an emotion much better.
John Lydon
A small, heterogeneous, multiform and constantly evolving Balkan orchestra, that brings together musicians of different origins and cultural baggage. The main groups’ source of inspiration is the Rom music, an artistic expression of people who know how to merge in a single voice the different features of Balkan Europe.
JOVICA JOVIC BALKAN ORKESTAR was born in 2014 from the meeting between the master JOVICA JOVIC, a Serbian Rom accordionist with long experience and deep traditions, and a group of musicians interested in Gypsy music, to whom the master wanted to teach his style and repertoire.
The passage of knowledge between Jovica and the rest of the musicians is therefore a real exchange between different cultures, overcoming geographical and cultural boundaries that keep traditions and sounds far from each other, thus creating an original sound and a unique style.
The JOVICA JOVIC BALKAN ORKESTAR repertoire is fun and refined at the same time ... pressing rhythms, Oriental intervals and virtuosities alternate with the evocative power of melting melodies, in a combination of exoticism and energy that excites and drags into the dances every type of audience. An alchemic connection that makes the show unforgettable.
The group members are
JOVICA JOVIC - ACCORDION
MARTA PISTOCCHI - VIOLIN
PETAR MARINKOVIC - CAJON
RAFFAELE KOHLER - TRUMPET
FRANCESCA FLOWER - DARBUKA
FRANCESCA BIFFI – VOICE
Depending on the occasion, they change formation going from a trio to an entire orchestra. They can also be accompanied by Gaia's dances and her tribe of MANDALANCE dancers.
Gaia and Jovica have known each other for more than ten years and they share a passion for the Rom culture. Jovica brings its voice with his accordion while Gaia celebrates the melodies and its histories dancing, in constant dialogue with the master. Both available with the full orchestra but also for a dance and accordion duet. They offer excellent performances for weddings, parties, birthdays, goodbyes or simply for a different evening in the name of live music, dance and a really rich and overwhelming culture.
